ADJUSTMENTS/ MANIPULATION There are a variety of types of adjustments or Chiropractic Techniques. Below are some of the techniques Dr. Connelly uses in his office. Diversified-This is the most common technique in Chiropractic. It employs high velocity low amplitude thrusts to the spine, often resulting in a "popping" noise. This noise is simply gas escaping from the joint as it moves. There are dozens of manuevers within this technique, and as with all Chiropractic Techniques, should be pain free. Activator-Activator Technique uses a hand held instrument which exerts a high speed thrust to correct a misaligned joint. Activator Technique is popular for people who do not like the popping noises associated with other treatments, or who have conditions that would prevent the use of other techniques. Thompson-Thompson Technique uses a "drop" table which increases the speed of the adjustment. This allows less force to be used. Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)-Sacro-occipital techniques is an analysis and treatment which uses many of the same manuevers that Diversified uses. Additionally, "blocks", specifically designed wedges, are specifically placed under the patient to correct pelvic imbalances and disc distortion. It is a highly effective method of treating sciatica and "slipped discs". Cox-Cox Technique employs a motorized table that reduces disc distortion, relieves pain and improves posture and locomotion. A variety of spinal conditions can be treated with Cox Technique, however it is among the most sucsessful, safest and most comfortable methods of treating disc injuries and sciatica. Extremity Adjusting-This refers to adjusting any joint outside of the spine. Commonly treated joints include the TMJ (jaw), shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, wrists and elbows . Webster Breech-This technique is used to return breached babies to the correct position. It is a non-invasive, very gentle method of correcting breechs, and has over a 90% success rate. |
